Post-apocalyptic scenery

We went on a small 5-day roadtrip with our friends to explore the rural areas of Estonia. The trip was the best vacation I´ve had for a long time and the weather was with us.

The place where the photos are taken is an old fish factory in Omedu (close to Lake Peipus) and it was designed by my grandfather in the 70s. It has been long abandonded now, but the form of the house shines through. It was one of soviet time´s prettiest kolkhoz´s of the time, but after the collapse of the Iron wall it was quickly forgotten. Now it sits there in the forests, projecting post-apocalyptic vibes, wich I so greatly admire.

By the way, the dress is a 60s safary dress from eBay. My favourite this summer.

A new couch!

I gladly present you- the perfect new old couch! We gave away the old one and sat on the floor for some days, even had a picnic with friends there (cause it´s still too cold outside for picnic-business). The couch is from the 50s or 60s, opens weirdly into a big bed and has room for guest blankets and pillows. Jackpot!

An exhibition that has already ended..

Last month I was quite busy working on a gallery exhibition. It gathered the 5 best street artists or groupings around Estonia to paint on Y-gallery walls in Tartu. We, as in me and my beloved gent named Hypnobooster, got this room with complicated arches and created this piece in 5 days. We didn´t have any restrictions, we just had to make the room a whole. The opening night was a great success that evolved into an allnighter . And there were about 300 people coming by this night! Success indeed.

This is what we looked like during the opening. Around 3AM. These are my two best friends and yes, we really are dancing like this and drinking cheap wine from plastic cups. Oh, the youth...
You can see one of the participators work behind us, this artist is called Pintsel (Brush in English). Oh, and the girl in blue was the curator. Thanks a million.

Black is black

I´ve had this t-shirt for seven or eight years, but lost it a while ago and found it recently. Although I´m not into skulls or t-shirts anymore, I find this particular piece well made and it comes in a quite good fabric. So, between all of the girlyness, here´s some gothy vibes to you. As a matter of fact, I used to wear A LOT of black, mostly black for years when I was younger. Now it is more like an alternative choice for me, I really love bright colours and feel just a little boring wearing just black. Well, here it is served with pink and light blue to tone it down.

More of  ´ye olde "what I´ve been up to" tomorrow. Tataa!

Inspiring things

I´ve had a lot to do lately, therefore I didn´t manage to post anything. Or didn´t find interesting enough topics to post. Or was just lazy.
Anyways, thought I´d post some pictures of things that inspire me- cabinets of curiosities, circuses, things in a jar, darker ephemera and of course, my old love anatomy.

/A cabinet of curiosities: an encyclopedic collection of objects whose categorical boundaries were yet to be discovered. In short- weird objects that were unknown at the time of their discovery. Also zoological, botanical, ethnographical, archaelogical etc things, that were often faked too. Also called: Wunderkammer, Kunstkammer. The Kunstkammer portrayed the world symbolically, revealing its offerings in a theatrical way./

I don´t know why I have this affection towards darker things. Don´t get me wrong, I also love candy-colored lollipoplands and girly imagery, but these dark and complex pieces of art intrigue me more. There is more to them than just pretty girls or clothes or colors (now that I think of it, time to dig into those kinds of pictures!).

Pictures found from the internetz.

The Teeny-Tiny Kitchen

There was a renovation at my home for 7 months or so and everything was renewed. Walls were pulled down, new were built up and everything was installed brand new. At least in the kitchen and bathroom area, most of the living room furniture is mid century Scandinavian. I have lived in that apartement for all my life- years ago my family moved away and now I´m living here with my Andre.

I browsed through enormous amounts of old pictures for inspiration and I realized I wanted this retrofuturistic kitchen with strong 50s colours and checkered floor. There´s a lot of red, but it is atually much milder in real life and when the lights are off. Most of the kitchen furniture is custom made by an Estonian kitchen company, but the blue doors are in fact from IKEA, like the door knobs and the retro-looking oven, which I love.
The polka dot toaster wasn´t like that when I got it, some spray colours and tape make miracles. The kitchen towels and oven mitts are from the nearby supermarket, I fancied the colourful matrjoĆĄkas and they make the kitchen more vivid.

The polka dot containers were the most common ones during soviet times, because there weren´t any other to get. They are in really good shape and I like the typography and the fact that there is a whole tin box just for cinnamon or bay leaves

The saltcellar next to the stove is another of soviet time´s common things- everyone had one of those. It belonged to my mum, but we painted it blue and white to match our kitchen. It used to be this awful greasy wood. But now it´s just cute.

Oh, and I love my fridge also, it´s almost like Smeg, but much cheaper-Bompani. As I am still a student, these things matter. Maybe someday I will upgrade. There is still much to do, but all-in-all I´m really pleased how the kitchen turned out. It´s modern with an old timey twist. Fave.

What I´ve been up to

I´ve  been quite busy lately- I applied to one of Berlins art schools to get to study my text term there and combined a portfolio for the school council.
Here are some pictures from my puppet animation "Lorius Glorius", which is unfortunately unfinished, but it´s still  in progress. At least in my mind. I got my inspiration from burlesque dancers and geishas and dark underground cabaret bars(which exist in some dark dystopian movies) and combined all three. I´m really happy with the puppet and the lighting of the set, it delivers really well on pictures.

I love puppet animation and creating something like that out of wire, stockings, thread, foam, cardboard, fabric and whatnot is just utterly amazing. I will show some more in the future, when it´s ready.
